Senki Zesshou Symphogear: This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

Back with the 3rd episode of the Winter 2012 series, Senki Zesshou Symphogear. After drawing her sword on Hibiki last week, it seems Tsubasa still wasn’t ready to accept someone else in Kanade’s shoes…eer, Symphogear.  The Chief jumps between the two to keep Tsubasa from spreading Hibiki on the pavement…why is he not fighting Noise himself?   Whatever, Hibiki continues to fight the Noise with Tsubasa, much to her displeasure. Tsubasa, “the blade” denies her anger, but at the same can’t seem to get past Kanade’s death, even all these years later.

On top of not getting along with Tsubasa, Hibiki is also tiring herself to keep up in school while spending long nights to fight the Noise. Yuki is worried, but still kind to her friend.  Hibiki, in a meeting with the 2nd Division, reviews what’s currently known about the Noise: they were identified by the UN 13 years ago, but most myths and legends can be traced back to them, their attacks seem random and mechanical, all humans turn to dust at their touch, they’ve only appeared rarely until now, suggesting an organized plan is unfolding, and all the attacks center around a completed relic located beneath the school.

Meanwhile, as well as fighting the Noise, the 2nd Division is fighting an international dispute, mainly with the U.S., over control of the relic.  Their research division has already been hacked thousands of times, and they’re treading lightly without even being able to test the relic.  This, in my opinion, is just setup for multi-faceted fight later on, and my suspicions are only confirmed later, as a new symphogear is revealed. The cool tech never just stays in the hands of the good guys, does it?

After going beast-mode on some Noise for making Hibiki break her promise with Miku, she  and Tsubasa encounter a strange girl, also wearing a silver symphogear armor.  Who is this dangerous figure? She may be from the U.S., or maybe a part of the Noise plan.  And what of Hibiki’s power? She’s yet to unlock this “Armed Gear”, and her beastly attack on the Noise makes me think there’s something very dangerous to these armors that Hibiki has yet to grasp or control…

Until next time,
