back with the second episode of the action-packed Fall 2011 series, Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon. And this one, laiden with history and backstory, is a brain teaser, to say the least, but I think I’ve got the gist of the history of the “Horizon” world: (mostly thanks to Wikipedia) In the far future, humans abandon a devastated Earth and traveled to outer space. However, due to unknown phenomenon that prevents them from traveling into space, humanity returns to Earth only to find it inhospitable except for Japan. To accomodate the entire human population, pocket dimensions are created around Japan to house in the populace. In order to find a way to return to outer space, the humans began reenacting human history according to the Holy book Testament. But in the year 1413 of the Testament Era, the nations of the pocket dimensions invade and conquer Japan, dividing the territory into feudal fiefdoms and forcing the original inhabitants of Japan to leave. It is now the year 1648 of the Testament Era, the refugees of Japan now live in the city ship Musashi, where it constantly travels around Japan while being watched by the Testament Union, the authority that runs the re-enactment of history.
This is a very interesting premise, indeed, what most surprises me is that, somehow, the breast-obsessed student council president, Tori Aoi, is to become involved with this struggle. So far I’m only convinced he’d be an extraordinary gamer (specializing in eroge), much less a savior to the world. If I didn’t already know that he was the key to the story, my money would be on Masazumi, vice president, as she seems to be the only one, so far, with any critical opinions of the status quo, everyone else just seems to accept the fate of the wandering state of Japan.
While not as action-packed as the first episode, episode two served to fill in some much needed information while keeping the excitement going. Am I the only one not surprised that Tori flashed a visiting emperor? Not to mention that there’s a sense that something important is about to go down (maybe it was that guy on the announcement, or I’m just a good guesser (3 ). Masazumi is on the hunt for the Path of Remorse (whatever that is), while Tori prepares, with the help of the student council, for his confession to the Horizon-look-alike, P-01s. Can’t wait til next week for the must see action series of the season.
You can’t hate Tori, you can only shake your head and say to yourself “What are you gonna do?”, as he offers to share his eroge with you…
Until next time,
