back with yet another new series for the Fall 2011 season, Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai. A comedy series about students looking for friends, and the fun they have together along the way. The first episode shows the backgrounds of (what I’m taking to be) the central characters of the series, Kodaka, Yozora, and Sena; each, in some way, feels alienated from other students at their christian school, whether it be a bad first impression as a transfer student, only having an imaginary friends for fear of shortcomings from real friends, or being too popular to have any real friends who like you for who you are.
The backgrounds, so far, are diverse enough to get almost anyone emotionally invested and eager to see the Neighbor’s Club make new friends and develop their character. The designs are also very eye-catching, I was drawn to this series via the promo because of the characters and the very moe attitudes they have. And, while we haven’t been introduced to additional characters yet, I feel there’s still more yet to come in moe-ness.
A somewhat slow-paced first episode that relies on the characters’ ability to draw empathy and relate with the audience, Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai looks to be a nice, fun series to follow this season. Definitely in for more.
Until next time,
