C³: CubexCursedxCurious: The Antinomy of their Temperatures

C3-CubedxCursedxCurious PV

Hey minna,
back with the second episode for the night in my catch-up routine, C³: CubexCursedxCurious.  The plot is in full swing and conflict is hard to avoid, with the Knights of Gathering out to destroy not only Fear, but Konoha as well and even Haruaki if he gets in their way.  Kirika is filled in now on cursed tools as well…wish I was.

We get properly introduced to Peavey’s auxiliary sent from the Knights, the “Mummy Maker”, Amanda. Though she didn’t stay for long, as Peavey kills Amanda after learning that she tried to ask Fear to hand herself over before Peavey had a chance to fight them.  Using Amanda’s blood, Peavey activates her second Waas, “Dance Time”…

Haruaki and the others are worried about Fear, she seems to lose control whenever her “strange side” comes out, attacking everything instinctually, even nearly drilling Konoha into the ground.  For their safety, Haruaki and Konoha ask Fear to stand aside and not fight when Peavey returns to finish what she started.  But, seeing her friends pinned down, Fear decides that she’s just selfish, and can’t just stand aside while others are fighting for her.

What really sticks out to me in this episode was when Hauraki mentions that cursed tools were cursed by humans, and that he wants to help them, is this, perhaps, subtley dropping backstory to the history of the cursed tools? I really hope they fully explain them soon, but, to be honest, I’d be fine just watching Fear switch from cute moe-queen to certified B.A. to kick Peavey’s butt.

If you don’t watch next week’s episode, she’ll curse you :3

C3: CubexCursedxCurious: Warm Curse, Cold Curse

C3-CubedxCursedxCurious PV

Hey minna,
back to see the cursed cuteness of C³ CubexCursedxCurious, episode 3, “Warm Curse, Cold Curse”.  We’ve finally witnessed the cursed power of Fear, and her arsenal of killing and torture mechanisms.  As she drives away Peavey, Haruaki and Konoha also learn of Fear’s dark past, and the multitudes of people she’s been used to kill, and her deepest sins.

Fear’s powers are very unstable, so she can’t stop using her mechanisms, even when Peavey is withdrawn and only Haruaki and Konoha remain.  Thanks to Konoha (being a cursed tool, herself), Haruaki doesn’t take any serious injury, but Fear, grief-stricken runs away in tears.  Once Haruaki comes to back home, he commits to finding Fear, and, thanks to Konoha, comes closer to understanding what she’s going through and where she might be.

Kirika stumbles upon Fear in the city, and narrow escapes thanks to Fear’s flashback of earlier that day. Kirika then calls Haruaki to tell him about Fear.  On a side note, I’m glad I’m not the only one here who isn’t clued in on cursed tools, as Haruaki opts to not tell Kirika about what just happened.

Fear decides to remove herself from the world, maybe as an atonement for her sins, or to keep her from killing more people. Thankfully, Haruaki figures this out, and gets to the ocean just in time to jump in and save Fear.

The series takes a darker turn away from the continuous cuteness seen in the first two episodes.  But this means it is now better geared to handle the serious nature that the cursed tools have.  Just because Fear is calmed down and letting Haruaki help him, all is not well, Peavey and her accomplice are still out there, and I foresee and explanation for Kirika in the next episode.

C3: CubexCursedxCurious

C3-CubedxCursedxCurious PV

Hey minna,
back for third (and final, I’m spent) look at new anime for tonight, leaving off with the 2nd installment of the Fall 2011 series C3: CubexCursedxCursous.  Things just got interesting, the plot is moving at full steam and the action is kicked into fourth gear for this series.   What starts out as a rather laid-back atmosphere of Fear’s first day of school, turns into a showdown between cursed tools…

Plenty of fanservice shoved into the first half of the episode, that actually talked about class more than they were actually in class, but, it doesn’t matter. Fear gathers quite a following in Haruaki’s class on her first day, and even gets put up as a prize in a duel of taste between Haruaki and class president, Kirika, who I suspect will become important in subsequent episodes, as she’s featured in the OP along with Fear and Konoha.

Our cast’s pleasant afternoon takes a dark turn, just as Fear was about to explain her origins, a woman by the name of “Peavey Barois” appears and picks a fight with Fear, who is revealed to be a “cursed tool”.  Fear freezes up at the thought of all the people Peavey claims she’s killed, saying that it wasn’t her doing, and that someone was using her. Opponents swap as Konoha, a cursed tool herself ( 0.0 ), takes on Peavey, eventually with the help of Haruaki as a wielder.

Am I the only one bouncing off the walls after this? I mean, from the first episode I could have guessed that there was something interesting going on with Fear, but Konoha as well? I did not see that coming.  (I wonder what Kirika brings to the table…)  What amazes (and impresses) me the most is the continued cool-headedness of the male lead, Haruaki. Not only did he NOT freak out when Fear appeared stark naked in his kitchen in the middle of the night, but apparently he’s totally down to fight mechanized strangers using a sword that was (not 5 seconds ago) your childhood friend standing right next to you. Finally, a male character that, while not particularly special, isn’t useless in a fight.

I was going to go to sleep after watching C3, but now I’m too excited…I love it when anime really gets under my skin and makes me obsessed with it, or at least keeps me awake at night, waiting to see what happens.  Next week seems to showcase Fear’s strengths in battle, as the chips are down and she needs to step up to protect Haruaki and Konoha from Peavey, maybe we’ll find out more about this shadowy organization she works with and what kind of father sends cursed tools to his son…

C3 CubexCursedxCurious

C³ CubexCursedxCurious PV

Hey minna,
back with the first episode of the Fall 2011 series “C³ CubexCursedxCuriosus”, and it looks to be a very interesting series, to say the least.

I sallow the air coldly.
Like being in a box.
It feels like being in a coffin inside the box.
Cold, chilled, dark.
I whisper while awake…
I whisper while asleep.
I whisper while I have my eyes open and have my eyes closed.
The repeal that I am…continues to whisper.

The details to which Fear, a girl produced via a strange box sent to Yachi Haruaki from his father, came to be are…confusing, but I feel the whole story wasn’t actually just dumped in the first episode, and things should become clearer soon.  Fear spends the first episode venturing out to the shopping district and “cleaning” Haraki’s house while he and Konoha, his childhood friend, are away at school.

The meat of the first episode is Fear coming to understand that Haruaki believes she can remove her curse, even the house their living in is a spiritual place that can help her do that.  (Hopefully, the details will clear up, or else I’ll lose this series to confusion)

Teaser for the next episode includes a glimpse at, who I’m thinking is, the antagonist.  I’m definitely interested, this series is beautiful, and if it keeps it up, I may just watch for the stunning graphics.  The fanservice is plentiful as well (but not too distracting, if that makes any sense).  Looking forward to the second episode of C3, I recommend this to viewers (definitely mature) who like irrelevant action and cute characters with a dark undertone, despite the beautiful scenery.

Fear reminds me of a more aggressive Touwa Erio from Denpa Onna…
